Hossenshiki is an important gateway in a priest’s life in the Soto Zen school. A person who takes up the role of Shuso (head trainee) in a temple or monastery takes on the responsibility of upholding the matrix of practice for all sincere practitioners. Guiding the assembly with keen sight, love, discipline, and respect, the Shuso leads by example for a specific term of practice.

Please join the assembly at Great Vow for this morning of supporting Onshin Landry in this rite of passage. Onshin has served as Shuso for two years total during his training at Great Vow Zen Monastery. During Hossenshiki, the Shuso will offer gratitude to the assembly, as well as answer questions from the assembly about Zen practice in a lively way. Great Vow will also welcome several distinguished priests from around the country, who will attend as senior representatives of the Soto school.

The ceremony will begin at 10am and we will have a buffet lunch together after.

Please RSVP if you plan on attending this event in person.
