Five Buddhist Precepts for Ethical Living - in person at Great Vow
With Laura Jomon Martin and Patrick Bansho Green
August 17 - September 21, 2025
These one hour in person 5 Precepts classes will happen every Sunday for six weeks. 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm
We all want to live a compassionate life. The precepts give us a framework for what it means to live an ethical life.
More then a set of rules to follow, the precepts are deep inquiries into the actual living of our lives with attention and love.
The format is an introductory talk followed by class discussion.
Participants will be encouraged to do a short writing on each precept and practice with the precept during the week. There are also some supplemental readings.
Participation and writings are required to take part in the 5 Precept Ceremony.
Everyone is welcomed to attend.
The 5 Precepts
I vow not to kill, but to cherish all life.
I vow not to steal, but to respect that which belongs to others.
I vow not to misuse sexual energy, but to be honest and respectful.
I vow not to lie, but to speak the truth.
I vow not to misuse drugs or alcohol, but to keep the mind clear.
