A Zen teacher once said, medicine and disease heal each other. The whole earth is medicine. What is the self?

This weekend retreat is designed to encourage us to directly face the Climate Catastrophe. This retreat is for those who may be on the front lines of climate activism to those who are empathetic yet unsure what to do and everyone in between.

This retreat will take place out-of-doors on the spacious monastery grounds, which includes a temperate rainforest, large garden, open meadows and a big sky. Meditating with the natural world, we allow ourselves to be graced by the wisdom of the more than human world AND we allow ourselves to open to the feelings and emotions we may be experiencing in regards to the climate crisis.

In addition to meditation, this retreat will include body practice, mindfulness practices, forest walking, earth-sitting, song, and a grief ritual. We will come together to harness our collective wisdom while facing the changing climate, perhaps discovering together the medicine of this time and place.

There are options to donate to our scholarship fund, which allows those on a low or fixed income to have the opportunity to enjoy the fruits of retreat and Dharma practice, please make a donation if you are able. A $50 deposit is required to hold your spot.

In-door sleeping and camping options are available. If the weather is inclement we will make use of the indoor facilities as well.

Since we will be meditating out-of-doors please consider bringing a sun hat, mosquito netting, sun-screen, bug spray, a warm-hat and warm clothes for night sitting. If you have a wool blanket or outdoor blanket, you might appreciate having this as well.

The monastery has some extra sun hats, sunscreen, bug spray and warm clothes you can use or borrow while you are here.

This retreat is in-person only.
