This Dharma is abundantly present in each human being, but if we do not practice it, it does not manifest itself, and if we do not experience it, it cannot be realized. – Dogen Zenji

In communion with our ancestors who set aside time each year for deep retreat, the Monastery offers this Autumn Ango.  Ango is a celebration of stillness and quiet contemplation, upheld with the support of community and teachers.

Ango can be translated to mean peaceful dwelling. During this practice period our daily schedule takes on a tone of a light retreat which includes more zazen (about 5.5 hours), body practice (yoga, qi-gong, running/walking in the forest) and increased times of silence. The schedule supports and prepares the heart/mind for the longer sesshins held within the Ango period including the Walking the Ancient Way ten-day sesshin, Gratitude sesshin, and our seven-day Rohatsu sesshin.

Intensive training in meditation, contemplation and inquiry clarifies the heart and mind, allowing for deep and sustaining transformation. The silence and serenity of the monastic schedule during Ango is an opportunity to familiarize one’s self with what is most true and liberating.

The fee for the full ten weeks of residential training is $1,400.

Please contact the director of training with any questions or to arrange a residency during the Ango practice period
